Have you ever felt like your emotions are running the show? Like no matter how hard you try to think positively, you keep getting pulled back into the same old feelings of stress, anxiety, or self-doubt? I’ve been there. And let me tell you, it’s exhausting.

That’s why Chapter 2 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself was such a game-changer for me. Dr. Joe Dispenza doesn’t just tell you to “think positive” and call it a day. He explains why it’s so hard to change—and how to actually do it.

The Thought-Emotion Cycle

Here’s the thing: your thoughts and emotions are like best friends. They’re constantly reinforcing each other. You think a thought, it triggers an emotion, and that emotion makes the thought feel even more real. Before you know it, you’re stuck in a loop.

For example, let’s say you’re stressed about work. You think, I’m never going to get this done. That thought triggers anxiety, and the anxiety makes the thought feel even more true. It’s a vicious cycle.

I realized I was doing this all the time. I’d think, I’m not good enough, and then I’d feel sad or frustrated. Those emotions would make the thought feel even more real, and I’d end up stuck in a rut. Sound familiar?

Your Body is Part of the Problem

Here’s where it gets interesting: your body plays a huge role in this cycle. Dr. Dispenza explains that your body is like the subconscious mind. It stores emotions and memories, and those emotions influence your behavior.

For me, this meant that even when I tried to think positively, my body was still holding onto old emotions—like stress, fear, or insecurity. It was like my mind and body were out of sync. To create real change, I needed to reprogram both.

The Quantum Field: You’re Made of Energy

This is where things get a little sci-fi (but stick with me). Dr. Dispenza introduces the idea of the quantum field—a concept from physics that says everything in the universe is made of energy and information. That includes you.

What does this mean for your life? It means that by changing your energy (your thoughts and emotions), you can influence the energy around you and create a new reality. In other words, you’re not just a passive observer of your life—you’re an active creator.

This idea blew my mind. It made me realize that I wasn’t just a victim of my circumstances. I had the power to change my energy—and in doing so, change my life.

How to Break the Cycle

So, how do you actually break the thought-emotion cycle and create a new reality? Here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. Become Aware: Notice when you’re stuck in a negative thought-emotion cycle. What thoughts are triggering your emotions? What emotions are reinforcing your thoughts?
  2. Interrupt the Pattern: When you catch yourself in a cycle, pause. Take a deep breath. Choose a different thought or emotion.
  3. Reprogram Your Body: Use techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or visualization to release old emotions and create new ones.
  4. Focus on the Energy You Want to Create: Instead of dwelling on what you don’t want, focus on what you do want. Visualize it. Feel it. Believe it.

Final Thoughts

Chapter 2 was a wake-up call for me. It reminded me that I’m not just a victim of my thoughts and emotions—I’m the creator of my reality. Yes, it takes work to break old patterns and create new ones. But the payoff is worth it.

If you’re feeling stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts and emotions, know this: you have the power to change. It starts with awareness, and it grows with practice. You’re not just a passive observer of your life—you’re an active creator. So, what kind of reality do you want to create?
